For my MSc graduation thesis at TU Delft, I conceptualised an autonomously operating parcel delivery system. The delivery pod is meant to be part of a system of small robot vehicles that bring parcels to people. With funding from TU Delft, I designed and built a working, remote-controlled prototype to compare robotic deliveries with today’s human ones.
The prototype
Parcels travel in modular containers of different sizes, each with drawers that hold the parcels.
The video shows how people reacted when they met the robot for the first time.
Swipe to open
Every container has an NFC terminal inside, so recipients open their drawer with a phone or a regular access card.
Dutch Design Week
After graduating, I spent a week at Dutch Design Week 2019, showing this new way of parcel delivery at the 4TU booth in the Klokgebouw in Eindhoven. I designed the set-up myself: the robot greets visitors, and they can try it for themselves.
